Sunday School Teacher Wanted at Old Brick Reformed Church

Old Brick Reformed Church, 490 Route 520 Marlboro, New Jersey, is looking to hire a Sunday school teacher who possesses a strong sense of mission to educate children and help our congregation renew our Sunday school program starting this fall in October. The position we are looking to fill is a teaching position with as many as 15 children of varied elementary school ages. The position will require three hours a week, an hour and a half in lesson preparation, and an hour and half spent at the Church on Sunday mornings from 9:15 – 10:45 a.m.  Interested parties can send an e-mail to:  Rev. Old Brick Reformed Church to Sponsor CPR/AED Classes this Fall

Old Brick Reformed Church, 490 Route 520, Marlboro, NJ, is sponsoring two CPR/AED classes this Fall.  Oceanside CPR, will lead this American Health and Safety Institute training class on: Thursday, Sept. 28th and Thursday Oct. 5th from 7-9pm.

Certified instructors will teach you how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for infant, children and adults. Learn how to perform CPR correctly, use an Automated External Defibrillator and save someone from choking in this hands-on class, using manakins.

Registration: Contact Old Brick Reformed Church at 732-946-8860 or  Classes are limited to 35 people, so please register (for either class) by Friday, Sept. 15th.  Cost: $20.00 per person (any age) or $30.00 with certification cards, (restricted to 8 years and older).

Speaker: Steven Argue, PhD [Michigan State University] is Assistant Professor of Youth, Family, and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary and the Applied Research Strategist for the Fuller Youth Institute. Steve researches, speaks, and writes on adolescent and emerging adult spirituality. He has served as a pastor on the Lead Team at Mars Hill Bible Church [Grand Rapids, MI]; coaches and trains church leaders and volunteers; and has been invested in youth ministry conversation for over 20 years.

Seeking Church Organist:  Come and grow with us! We are a smaller church seeking a talented and creative organist/pianist/choir director.

Position summary: Music is an important part of our small church. Under the leadership of the pastor, the church organist exercises an important ministry that reaches out to the members of the congregation and the community. Reporting to the pastor, the organist has a leadership role in nourishing and enhancing an existing music program, which is inviting to everyone in the congregation. Major responsibilities include directing the choir, choosing and performing appropriate music such as preludes, anthems, interludes and postludes during worship services. The position includes, but not limited to, Sundays and special services such as Christmas Eve service, Maundy Thursday. In addition, there will be an opportunity to work with the children for special services such as the Christmas Pageant and Children’s Day.  If there is a need for an organist at other times such as weddings and funerals the predetermined fee will be paid by the family. Salary to be discussed upon interview.

Experience and required skills:

  • Competency with organ and pianos
  • Competency in choir direction
  • Works well with adults and children
  • Has experience with traditional and contemporary music
  • Understanding that music is a part of the church’s ministry and spiritual life
  • Understanding that the position is a ministry and an offering to God and community and not simply an opportunity for performance

Responsibilities for the position include the following:

  • Play organ and/or piano during Sunday morning (10:00 am September-June and 9:30 am July-August)
  • Directing the choir September through June.
  • Choir practice on Sunday
  • Select seasonally and liturgically appropriate musical pieces for preludes, interludes, anthems, and postludes.
  • Provide musical selections for each week a timely manner to be published in the Sunday bulletin
  • Arrange for tuning of pianos and organ as needed and budgeted
  • Maintain and recommend additions to music library
  • Maintain reasonable availability through cell phone and email
