Community Development learning group forming

Community Development efforts are proving to be a major way churches can engage their mission. In a variety of ways, they are developing creative and significant interventions in communities around issues of food, housing, foster care, etc...

As part of the outcome of our various Revitalization/Renewal conversations, Earl James has done some work in preparing a seminar.  Details of the seminar can be found in the attachments.  We want to send you this as another action item which has been developed.

This project is run in conjunction with Western Seminary as part of their Journey program. An information sheet and an application are in our downloads section in the folder called "Community Development"

The deadline to register has been extended to May 10th, and Earl’s office can provide a stipend of $325 per church.

If you are interested in participating, email or call Earl James ASAP: or 616.916.8077

Prayers for Ellen Ratmeyer in loss of her mother

Ellen has worked in our region for many years and helped us in her role of Consistory development coordinator. She writes...

My dear 97 year old mother passed away this afternoon. Today I sang to her, read several of the psalms to her, and told her God had a special garden ready for her to tend. I asked her to hug my son Clint when she got there.  Then I asked God to take her home. My brother and I were with her most of the day....about an hour after we left the nursing home, she passed. God's grace is amazing. We shared the news with my sister by phone and she rejoiced with us.

We are still working on her obituary, but here's what we have so far:  Hazel Clara Davidge Lovell went to be with her Lord April 27, 2011. She was born in the West Chester area April 25, 1914. She graduated from Kennett Square High School in 1933.

Proceeded in death  by her husband, Alton W. Lovell, and grandson Clint Mers. Survived by  son, Edward Lovell of Chadds Ford, PA, daughter, Ruth Ann Hummel, of Brooksville, FL, and daughter Ellen Ratmeyer of Selkirk, NY, and Grandchildren, Edward Lovell, Jr, Angela Lovell, Cinderly Hahn, and John Hummel, and Great Grand-children, KateLynne, and Jacob Hahn, brother David Davidge, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel, a licensed practical nurse for many years, retired from Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fl. She continued to do private duty nursing care in homes for several years.   She was a member of Shiloh Bible Church in Almedia, PA and was actively involved in women's and children's ministries. She enjoyed knitting, reading, Bible studies, playing thepiano, baking pies, and gardening.

Thanks so much for your prayers,

    With a grateful heart,

    Ellen Ratmeyer
